beat the city – trilogy with a total of over 13.200 participants – the Innsbruckathlon thrilled 2.550 runners at the finale of the series
One record follows the next – the ultimate sightseeing tour through Innsbruck lured visitors with 20 obstacles in front of a spectacular Alpine panorama. This year there was sliding, jumping and running over two distances.
This year, beat the city history was made: After the foodora Linzathlon and the GRAWE Grazathlon, the Innsbruckathlon now thrilled 2.550 runners, including 750 kids! With a good portion of muscle power, stamina and fun, they managed to conquer the city together. Not only on the previous 10 kilometers but also on the 5+ km distance, all participants were able to show what they were made of. The classics, such as "Monkeyland", "Hupf in Gatsch" and "Wand 4 Panier" had to be overcome on both distances.
Challenge on two distances
The race started after the starting signal from Heinz Pöttinger (purora, namesake) and Claus Meinert (Kronen Zeitung, media partner) at the Landestheater. Both distances ran to the Karwendel-Bögen, where the previous route curved towards the Bergisel and the new 5+ km distance led back towards the center. There the longer variant merged into the shorter route again. Amid thunderous applause from the audience, the runners were then accompanied on the last few meters to the finish at the Landestheater.
Lucas Kempe mastered the toughest sightseeing tour through Innsbruck the fastest with a sensational time of 47:52 minutes. His pursuer Hannes Stummer crossed the finish line after 49:27 minutes. Secured third place Anian Rottmüller (50:26 minutes). In the women won Maria Flecker with a time of 1:01:27 hours. Her fellow competitors Marlene Stummer (1:02:47 hour) and Melanie Klöcker (1:04:59 hours) were the next to reach the finish line.
Adventure land at the Junior Innsbruckathlon
The young Tyroleans were not left out either: 750 children and young people between the ages of 8 and 15 competed in the Junior Innsbruckathlon, which took place the day before the main event. For two kilometers, the juniors had to climb over inflated obstacles, trudge through slatted containers or crawl through sand. Together, the kids mastered all nine obstacles with flying colours, which was also rewarded with a medal at the end.
Series records a la beat the city
beat the city was in a state of emergency this year! After the record participation at the foodora Linzathlon with 2.900 runners, the celebration continued at the GRAWE Grazathlon. A gigantic 7.800 participants took on the challenge in Graz. The crowning conclusion of the trilogy: Innsbruck with 2.550 running enthusiasts! Great performances were brought to light by some participants who took part in the entire series: Maria Flecker was first in the women’s category, the winner in the men’s beat the city category was Lucas Kempe!
